Four simple ways to build a better box

How can one printer stand out in a crowd of competitors? Easy. By building a better box. But how do you build a better box than the one that you’re building right now? Over my years in the print industry, I have found that there are four simple, but very important principles that can increase the quality of your output as a printer. In a nutshell, these principles are: be willing to change, ask questions, invite collaboration, and test your process.

The biggest thing that I see holding printers back from making a better box is that they often do not see the need for change. I talk to printers who have been running the same processes with the same operators for numerous years and they tell me that everything is fine. The sneaky thought of ‘if it isn’t broken, why fix it?’ makes it very difficult to see the necessity of change. What a printer is doing may be working just fine and producing some success, but in this competitive age, the only way to lasting success is to stay better than the next guy. Without a willingness to improve, there will be little chance of building a better box than you are right now.
